Electric gate help: manual release and faults
We automate gates: the motors, controls and safety devices. We don't make or hang the gates themselves. Here's what to do when an automated gate stops working.
Pick your make
The make is usually printed on the panel, keypad, recorder or motor cover. If you can't find it, call us and we'll tell you.
Roger
R30 and BG30 swing motors
BFT
Swing and sliding motors
CAME
Swing and sliding motors
FAAC
391 swing motors
Beninca
BULL, YAK and BISON sliding motors
How it works
Most gate calls are a power cut, a gate that stops and reverses, or one that won't move at all. A gate that reverses is often doing its job: something is breaking the photocell beam or touching a safety edge.
In a power cut, or if the motor fails, you can usually open the gate by hand with the manual release. Always turn the power off first. Pick your motor below for the steps.

How do I open my electric gate in a power cut?
Turn off the power to the gate, then use the manual release on the motor. Our guides show the steps for Roger, FAAC and Beninca motors. For BFT and CAME, follow the release tag or call us.
Why does my gate stop and go back?
Usually something is breaking the photocell beam, the photocell lenses are dirty or covered, or the gate has touched something. Check the area is clear. If it keeps happening, call us.
My gate won't move at all. What should I check?
Check the power is on and that the gate isn't still on manual release. Try another remote. If it still won't move, call Fortline on 01635 938998.
Can I bypass the photocells to get the gate working?
No. Never override safety edges or photocells. They stop the gate closing on people and cars.
Do you fit gates?
No. We automate gates and service and repair gate automation. We don't make or hang the gates themselves.
