Roger Technology gate motor: manual release and faults
For Roger Technology swing gate motors with a key-operated release on the motor, such as the R30 and BG30 ranges. We automate gates; we don't make or hang the gates themselves.
Covers: Roger Technology R30 and BG30 swing operators. Only follow steps for your own system. If anything on your screen or panel looks different, stop and call us on 01635 938998.
Video guide coming soon
A short video showing these Roger steps will go here. Until then, follow the steps on this page.
Opening the gate by hand
Use this in a power cut or if the motor fails.
- Turn off the power to the gate. The motor must be stopped.
- Flip up the small cover over the release lock on the motor and put in the release key.
- Turn the key 90° clockwise.
- Open the release cover fully.
- Move the gate by hand, slowly, keeping fingers away from hinges and the motor arm.
Putting it back to automatic
- Lower the release cover with the key still in. Mind your fingers.
- Turn the key 90° anticlockwise and take it out. Close the small lock cover.
- Turn the power back on. Check nobody is near the gate before you use it.
If the gate stops or reverses
- Check nothing is between the photocells or blocking the gate's path, and that the photocell lenses aren't covered. If it still stops, call us.
- If it still won't work, or the motor hums without moving, call us.
Keep the release key somewhere safe and easy to find, away from the gate.

Lower the release cover with the key in, turn the key 90° anticlockwise, remove it, close the lock cover and turn the power back on.
I've lost the release key. What should I do?
