Fire alarm servicing and installation in Newbury, Reading and Berkshire
Fire alarm servicing, repairs and new systems for businesses, managed blocks and homes, carried out to BS 5839-1:2025. All our fire alarm engineers hold the Level 3 qualification in BS 5839-1, covering design, installation, commissioning and maintenance.

Fire alarm servicing
If you're responsible for a building, the law expects its fire alarm to be kept in working order. Our service visits test every device, check the panel, batteries and sounders, and update your log book. You get a certificate you can show your insurer or fire risk assessor.
- Smoke and heat detectors, call points and sounders tested
- Panel, batteries and power supply checked
- Faults found and quoted for, with nothing fitted without your approval
- Log book updated and certificate issued after every visit
Repairs and false alarms
Repeated false alarms disturb staff and residents, and people stop taking the alarm seriously. We find the cause, whether that's a detector in the wrong place, an ageing head or a wiring fault, and fix it.
New systems, upgrades and zone plans
From a small conventional panel to an addressable system across several floors, we design and install to suit your building and fire risk assessment. Many sites we take over have no up-to-date zone plan, so we draw one as part of the job.
Homes and rented properties
We also fit and service linked smoke and heat detection in homes, flats and HMOs, including wireless systems where running cables isn't practical.

How often does a fire alarm need servicing?
For a business, BS 5839-1 recommends a service by a competent person at least every six months, plus a weekly call point test carried out on site and recorded in the log book.
What changed with BS 5839-1:2025?
The 2025 edition updated the standard for fire alarm design, installation and maintenance. When we take over a site we check your system and paperwork against it and explain anything that needs attention.
Do you service fire alarms you didn't install?
Yes. Most of the systems we look after were fitted by someone else. We start with a free system health check so you know where your system stands.
What if my panel shows a fault?
Call Fortline on 01635 938998. A fault light usually means a battery, power or detector issue that stops the system working as it should, so it needs fixing promptly.
