Why AOVs matter
In a fire, smoke in a stairwell is what stops people getting out. An AOV opens automatically to clear it. If it doesn't open, or its control panel has a fault nobody noticed, the escape route isn't protected.
Servicing
We test each vent opens fully on a signal from the fire alarm and from its manual controls, check actuators, control panels, batteries and weather seals, and record the results for your fire risk assessor.
For blocks and managing agents
AOVs are usually found alongside the fire alarm and emergency lighting in a block. We service them together, on one visit plan and one certificate pack. More for property managers.

What is an AOV?
An automatic opening vent opens when smoke is detected, usually at the top of a stairwell or in a corridor, to let smoke out and keep escape routes clear.
How often should AOVs be serviced?
They should be tested regularly and serviced by a competent company. Your fire risk assessment should set the frequency. Most blocks have them serviced at least once a year.
Can you service AOVs alongside our fire alarm?
Yes. AOVs are usually triggered by the fire alarm, so testing them together is the best way to prove the whole system works.
